Description

Hosted in 2024 as part of the Horizon Europe BioDT initiative, this webinar explored how digital twin technology can revolutionize biodiversity and agriculture, particularly in maximizing the value of crop wild relatives (CWR). The session highlighted the synergy between MoDGP (Modelling the Distribution of Germplasms of Interest), a novel modeling methodology, and FIGS (Focused Identification of Germplasm Strategy). Attendees gained insights into how digital twinning facilitates model-based identification of genetic resources through automated uncertainty analysis, real-time data integration, dynamic updates, and trait alerts. This innovative approach offers valuable tools for plant breeders, conservationists, and decision-makers.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, learners will be ready to:

  • Apply the concept of the Digital Twin to biodiversity research and management;
  • Evaluate the ecological and agricultural importance of Crop Wild Relatives (CWR);
  • Utilize the MoDGP tool to analyze and process targeted genetic data;
  • Implement the FIGS (Focused Identification of Germplasm Strategy) framework alongside Machine Learning models for trait discovery;
  • Integrate multi-omics and environmental datasets to derive actionable insights.

Target Audience

The target groups for the resource are researchers, research groups, companies in the agricultural and seed sectors, policymakers, and other sector experts such as plant breeders, conservationists, and modelers.
