Section outline

  • CASCADE - CoAStal and marine waters integrated monitoring systems for ecosystems proteCtion AnD managemEnt aims to improve the capacity to understand, assess, and treat current and future climate change related risks on the local level, focusing on the particular in Baltic Sea Region (BSR) conditions. The CASCADE project helps to improve knowledge and assessment of the quality and vulnerability of inland, coastal, and marine ecosystems in Italy and Croatia with the ultimate goal of restoring endangered species and supporting integrated management. To this end, the project develops a series of concerted and coordinated actions including monitoring (observation and modeling) and management (Maritime Spatial Planning - MSP, Integrated Coastal Zone Management - ICZM, Land-Sea Interaction - LSI) of coastal areas, which are essential to support concrete actions that address environmental vulnerability and ecosystem protection across borders. Integrated modeling and observational systems have been developed to design and implement management and restoration actions in 11 pilot areas, for the assessment and protection of coastal and marine biodiversity.
